San Antonio’s newly elected mayor, Ron Nirenberg is currently leading a delegation to Israel that will focus on strengthening cultural and business ties with the Jewish State. According to a press release issued by a San Antonio government domain, the specific purpose of the visit is to, “deepen relationships with local leaders, align economic development opportunities in targeted industries and strengthen cultural and educational ties between the two countries.”
This visit, organized by the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Jewish Federation of San Antonio, provides the opportunity for San Antonio and Israeli businesses, particularly those that share areas of economic overlap such as cybersecurity and bioscience, to meet and discuss further trade and investment opportunities.
Through the strengthening of diplomatic ties with the Jewish state, the purpose of the visit is to also build on the 2011 Friendship City Agreement that San Antonio signed with Tel Aviv. Mayor Nirenberg emphasized, “There is broad recognition in international business and diplomatic circles that economic partnerships don’t just happen...They require lots of work and relationship building that happens on trade missions just like this.”
Overall, the delegation by San Antonio’s Mayor follows in the recent trend of mayors of major U.S. cities nationwide leading business trips to Israel with the purpose of expanding economic opportunities with the Jewish State.
